Songs, songs, more songs. Right now our backs are buckling and our knees are shaking under the weight of new songs, ideas, melodies, plans and aspirations. We are faced with the task of completing and compiling said ideas into what many like to call "an album". And so we continue, the feverish writing phase has resulted in enough material for a rather lengthy opus, with enough left over to fashion a hot air balloon for touring, parachutes for landing, and a tarpaulin to cover your ma's fat ass. (No offence). We played Bud Rising there last Tuesday night, with Iain Archer and The Amazing Pilots. Mr Archer was on top form, great songs, he was joined on stage by some o' the Pilots. The Amazing Pilots lived up to part of their name at least. It turns out, rather disappointingly, that they are not in fact pilots. They do, however, write really good songs and we like them very much. They have an album for sale, and I'm getting one. Our gig was ok, could be described as one of those nights. I blame a flu virus that cruelly struck down three of our rank over the last week, robbing us of the extra skip in our step and pomp in our ceremony. Still, the crowd gave their approval so no harm done. We are now looking forward to our summer holiday, in the Czech Republic, where we venture to play three gigs, maybe more, at the end of June. My, the year just flies by, doesn't it? We intend to try out some more new songs while we're there, see how we're getting on. We started recording Gouge Away and it's turning out well, but lies unfinished thanks to the aforementioned flu virus. We better finish it soon, or there'll be slaps. They have a deadline and we've never been too good with those. We put some synthesizers on it, and guitar noise things. And a religious choir sounding thing. It wasn't planned that way, but it turned out that way. Now for the simple task of making it all work together (yeah right)... Don't know if you approve but it'd be damn lazy of us not to make the effort and come up with a different version. On Sunday week, our Other Voices performance will be broadcast via the tele-vision to the blue lit living rooms of interested parties nationwide. I am curious how it turned out, I must admit. I've seen a few performances, seems to suit some better than others, the church setting and all. Regardless of how it turns out, it was one hell of a weekend. Good times... |
